Bare dirt around the house and beds full of weeds are where landscaping starts. Blackwell's Land Management builds and edges mulch beds, then sets the shrubs and plantings. We lay sod and put in stone borders for homes and businesses around Duncan and the Upstate. We also clean up overgrown beds and fix beds that hold water.
Our main work is land clearing and grading, and landscaping is the line that finishes the ground. Call or text (864) 747-5946 if you need a landscaper near Duncan. We look at the yard and put the quote in writing.

We shape new mulch beds and cut a clean edge where each bed meets the lawn. The edge keeps grass out of the bed and the mulch in it. Older beds get cleaned out and topped with fresh mulch. Once a bed is ready, the shrubs and plantings go in.
Sod turns bare ground into a lawn. It goes down on ground that is graded to shed water away from the house. Stone borders hold the mulch in place and mark the edge of each bed. Where a bed sits on a slope, a small retaining feature holds the soil.
Yard cleanups clear out overgrown beds and the weeds and brush that took them over. The old material can be piled or hauled off as part of our debris haul off work.
Blackwell's clears land and grades it with a compact track loader. When the machine work is done, the ground is bare and ready for landscaping.
After the yard grading sets the slope, sod can cover the open ground. New beds with mulch and shrubs can go in along the house. One company does both, so you make one call for the machine work and the landscaping.

South Carolina's extension service names fall as the best season to plant shrubs, for the best root growth. Shrubs planted from spring through summer need a closer watch on soil moisture. It also suggests a soil test a few months before planting, with kits from the county extension office.
Sod can go down almost any time of year in South Carolina, the same source says. Mid to late spring and fall are the best times. New sod needs water to a depth of 4 inches right after it is laid. Without enough rain, it needs water daily through the first week.
The federal soil survey puts Cecil soil under about 61 percent of the land inside Duncan's town limits. Cecil is sandy loam on top, with red clay below. In heavy clay, the extension service warns, a planting hole's sides can glaze like the inside of a clay pot. Its advice is to notch the sides of the hole with a shovel.
